1) What is OData? How is it used by SAP Gateway?
OData is a Web protocol for accessing structured data followingthe REST architecture principles. It builds on the AtomPub and JSON standardsto allow easy consumption of data by a wide range of devices and clienttechnologies. OData is called the “ODBC for Web” and provides Create, Retrieve,Update and Delete (CRUD) via HTTP protocol. OData version 4 is planned to be supported SAP Gateway.
5) How is OData integrated to SAP Lumira?
As part of SAP Lumira SP11, there is integration with Gateway tothe back end systems. Gateway is the key connector.
6) Are there any tutorials on customer REST channels and offlinecapabilities of OData?
SAP Community Network (SCN) is the best source to review blogsand how-to guides. Additionally, there are videos on YouTube.
7) Is OData from SAP HANA different from OData from SAP Gateway?Are there other products from SAP with OData?
Yes, HANA has its own OData capabilities. There are someother products, like SuccessFactors have their own REST-based, OData. Ariba’s roadmap includes having OData capabilities as well. The OData in HANAor other solutions is the same as OData from GW. The only difference isthe tools and service provisioning. This should be checked with each ofthe respective product teams.
